4th World Congress on Probation - Sydney 2019

Corrective Services NSW invites you to the upcoming 4th World Congress on Probation, which will be held over three days in Sydney, Australia, in September 2019.

The 4th World Congress on Probation brings together experts and practitioners from around the world to promote and develop probation and community corrections through the sharing of practical and academic knowledge.

We are proud to be hosting this event and are looking forward to showcasing how we manage offenders in the community.

We also hope you extend your journey beyond the conference to enjoy Sydney’s wonderful harbour setting, and the other magnificent sights that the city has to offer. Registrations opened in September 2018. We look forward to seeing you in Sydney this year.

Speakers for the Congress will include:

Fergus McNeill, Professor of Criminology and Social Work at the University of Glasgow: Principled Probation: Developing ethical and evidence-based practice in the real world.

Michael Spurr CB, Former chief executive of Her Majesty's Prison and Probation Service: Balancing probation, public opinion and politics.

Faye Taxman, Professor of Criminology at George Mason University, Northern Virginia: Implementing evidence-based practice.

Kyoko Hazama, Professor of Criminal Psychology at Chiba University, Japan: Involving the community in probation and parole.

Don Weatherburn, Executive Director (retired), NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research (BOCSAR): Building public confidence in community corrections.

Frank Porporino - Will facilitate a discussion panel to consider key questions from the Congress. Drawing on the content from the conference and using hypothetical scenarios, the panel can reflect on what we already do well, what we do poorly, and what we need to start thinking about moving into the future.
