As part of the NSW Government’s $3.8 billion Prison Bed Capacity Program, the Mid-North Coast Correctional Centre is undergoing an expansion. This expansion will deliver a facility that operates more efficiently, has a greater focus on inmate rehabilitation and maintains safety and security.

The expansion will create temporary jobs during construction and permanent jobs on completion, with flow-on effects for local businesses.
On 16 February 2018 ground was officially broken on site, allowing for construction to commence. Construction is expected to be completed by early-2020. So far the site has been cleared and the major earthworks have commenced.
