On Friday 15 December 2017 the Macquarie Correctional Centre in Wellington was commissioned and officially opened after 12 months of intense construction.
The 400-bed maximum-security Macquarie Correctional Centre is part of the NSW Government's $3.8 billion prison infrastructure program to address the state's rising prison population.
The Macquarie Correctional Centre is Australia's first maximum-security dormitory-style prison – that provides inmates with a carefully structured day which sees them gainfully occupied for up to 15-hours per day.
This secure dormitory-style facility will also help alleviate the state-wide pressures and make CSNSW operations safer and more efficient.
