​Bathurst ​Correctional Centre​

The NSW Government has approved Corrective Services NSW to proceed with the planning and design of an additional 220 beds within the existing grounds of Bathurst Correctional Centre. 

A Review of Environmental Factors (REF) will be carried out. The REF examines the likely environmental and social impacts of the proposed expansion and the measures required to mitigate any adverse impacts.

The expansion will see the following additions and alterations:

  • 220 maximum-security beds for males;
  • 10-bed segregation unit;
  • New visits area, education and programmes unit, and industries area; and
  • New reception and gatehouse buildings.

The expansion is part of a $3.8 billion infrastructure plan to provide an expanded prison system to accommodate the increasing prison population. The project will deliver a fit-for-purpose facility and a safe environment for correctional staff and inmates.
