Consultation Process

Corrective Services NSW (CSNSW) prides itself on being a good neighbour to the community and is determined to maintain and nurture this important relationship. Throughout the expansion program CSNSW will engage and consult with local communities and stakeholders to ensure the best possible outcomes for all involved. Information about how you can have your say and stay up to date are detailed below.

Community consultative committee
Community Consultative Committees provide an opportunity for community and stakeholder representatives to discuss local matters and concerns. Community Consultative Committees are a valuable way for individual centres to work with the local community. Committee meetings occur on a regular basis and ensure sustained consultation and community feedback. Contact your local correctional centre for more information.

Review of Environmental Factors

A Review of Environmental Factors (REF) is carried out before construction commences to assess and document the potential environmental impacts of development. The REF considers such matters as socio-economic impacts, impacts on the amenity of neighbours as well as environmental and traffic impacts.

Community information sessions

Community information sessions occur after the REF has been approved and before construction commences. It gives the local community and stakeholders an opportunity to review the REF and ask specific questions about construction impacts, notification procedures, job opportunities and any other concerns they may have. These sessions are run like an open house – usually for about three to four hours and people can come along at any time during the period.

During the construction phase CSNSW will provide notifications about impending works that may impact the local community. For instance; noisy works, access changes, out of hours work or particular earthworks. CSNSW also publishes site specific location updates throughout construction to keep the local community and stakeholders informed. These notifications are distributed by way of letterbox drop to relevant houses and local councils are also notified.
