The Commissioner

Commissioner Peter SeverinPeter Severin joined Corrective Services NSW (CSNSW) as the new Commissioner on 3 September 2012.

Mr Severin has extensive senior executive experience and knowledge in corrections from working in the portfolio for more than three decades.

Before joining CSNSW, Mr Severin was the Chief Executive of the South Australian Department for Correctional Services for nearly 10 years.

Under Mr Severin's leadership as Chief Executive of South Australian corrections, they achieved the lowest return to custody rate of any Australian jurisdiction over four consecutive years.

Mr Severin was previously the Deputy Director General of the Queensland Department of Corrective Services. He worked in that Department for more than 15 years.

Throughout his career, Mr Severin has been involved in contemporary correctional policy and practice overseeing significant infrastructure expansions. He has also been instrumental in improving the delivery of correctional services.

He started his corrections career in Germany back in 1980 and brings to CSNSW a strong background and expertise in offender management and intervention. Since 2010, Mr Severin has been a Board member of the International Corrections and Prisons Association (ICPA).

He holds a Masters of Public Administration and a Bachelor of Social Work.
