Lithgow Correctional Centre is a maximum security institution for males located 152km west of Sydney in the Blue Mountains. The Centre is at Marrangaroo, 7km west of Lithgow on the Great Western Highway.

How to Get There

Public Transport

Lithgow train station is a 7km taxi ride (approximately $30 each way) to the Lithgow Correctional Centre.

A bus service (Route 600) runs from the local Post Office to the Correctional Centre on Saturdays from 8.57am.

  • The bus arrives across the road from the centre on the Great Western Highway at 9.13am.
  • The return bus leaves the Great Western Highway at 12:27pm and returns to Lithgow Railway at 12:38pm.

There is no bus on Sundays.

Private Transport

Travelling from Sydney, continue through Lithgow on the Great Western Highway.

  • The turnoff to the Centre is signposted.
  • There is ample parking at the Centre.

​Visitor Information

Video Visits have been introduced across the state to help inmates maintain contact with family and friends while in person visits remain suspeneded due to COVID-19. 

To book a Video Visit at Lithgow Correctional Centre please call the visits booking line on 02 6350 2248

Commencing Monday 03 August 2020, Video Visits will take place on Saturday and Sunday only between the hours of 8am and 6.00pm. AFTERNOON VISITS WILL CEASE.

The time allocated for each Video Visit is 25 minutes. Visit times are subject to change.

  • Mondays  - 9am – 12pm & 1pm – 3:30pm
  • Tuesdays - 1 pm– 3:30pm.
  • Wednesdays - 9am – 12pm & 1- 3:30pm
  • Thursdays - 1- 3:30pm
  • Friday – No bookings taken.

In person social visits Bookings

All in person social visits to correctional centres in NSW have been temporarily suspended due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Visits to the Centre must be booked during the week prior to your visit. 

Before travelling for a visit, please call the correctional centre to confirm visit and visiting time.

Call the visits booking line on (02) 6350 2248, Monday to Thursday between

  • 1pm - 3.30pm

No bookings will be taken on weekends or public holidays. 

Inmates who are on special management regimes/programs have special booking procedures, which will be advised on enquiry to the above number as per the above booking times.

  • Only a small amount in coins may be taken into the Centre for use in the vending machines. 
  • No other items apart from those listed for visitors with infants are permitted. 
  • Should you wish to leave money, educational material or any other article at reception to be delivered to an inmate by an officer, you must telephone to ask whether this is permitted prior to your visit.
  • Respectable attire to be worn at all times. 
  • Banned attire includes: watches, open shoes or sandals and clothing with a hoodie.
  • Medical Certificate required for any visitor that has medical conditions, i.e. wheelchair, pacemaker, metal plates/joints or any other medical condition that may require reporting.

Legal Visits

Legal practitioners may visit in person or via teleconference from

Monday to Friday between

  • 10.30 am and 2.45 pm

Saturday and Sunday visits may be made between

  • 9.00 am - 11.30 am and
  • 12.00 noon - 2.30 pm

Industries at Lithgow Correctional Centre consist of Textiles, a Public Sector Business Unit, Technology/Packing & Assembly and Service Industries. 

  • Training programs are provided in the form of WorkCover, OH&S, TAFE and CSI Task Books. 
  • The centre also provides apprenticeships in Plumbing. 
  • The Textile Unit manufactures items for Health, Hospitality and Justice Departments. 
  • The Technology/Packing & Assembly Unit currently distributes inmate shoes statewide. 
  • The Public Sector Business Unit repairs bumper bars. 
  • The Service Industries, employing up to ninety (90) inmates, assist in general maintenance, hygiene and catering within the Centre.
