Hunter Correctional Centre is a maximum security facility for male offenders located at Cessnock Correctional Complex. It is located in the Hunter Valley, 151km north-west of Sydney and 48km west of Newcastle. Cessnock is also a reception centre for the Newcastle/Hunter region.

The entrance to the complex is the corner of Mavis and Lindsay Street Cessnock. You will need to enter this into any 'navigational' device, as most devices such as Navman, Google maps, Garman and mobile phone apps appear to use an incorrect access Road (Kerlew Street).

Rover Coaches have a limited service from the Rover Depot in Cessnock to the complex. Please check the Rover Coaches website for a timetable.
From Cessnock CBD, it is a half hour walk or five minute taxi ride to the Centre.

From Sydney take the Cessnock turnoff on the M1 Motorway and follow the signs to Cessnock. Turn right at the first set of lights into Vincent St and follow it to the end. Turn left at the lights into Wollombi Rd.
Proceed through the small roundabout and take the next right into Mount View Rd (following the sign marked "Correctional Centre"). Take the third right into Nelson St and turn right into Lindsay St. Follow Lindsay St to the complex.
From the New England Highway, travelling south from Singleton, turn off at Branxton and follow the signs to Cessnock. Stay on Allandale road until it ends and turn right onto Wollombi Rd. From there the directions are the same as for the route from Sydney.
From Maitland, turn left at the roundabout near Maitland station on the New England Highway. Follow the signs to Cessnock through Kurri Kurri, Weston, Abermain and Neath continuing on the same road through to Cessnock.
Pass through two sets of traffic lights and you are on Wollombi Rd. Follow the same directions as for the route from Sydney.

Bookings are required when visiting maximum security inmates. Bookings can be made between 9am-12pm and 1-3pm on Thursdays and Fridays.

Visitors must arrive at the centre at least 30 minutes before the start of their visit.
No items are permitted to be taken into the centre when visiting maximum security inmates. Up to $20 in coin (NO NOTES) per inmate can be taken to purchase items from the vending machines to be consumed during your visit.
Legal practitioners may visit by appointment only between 8am to 11am and 1pm to 3pm.
Notification of intention to visit must be made by emailing a letter of appointment to HunterCCAdmin@justice.nsw.gov.au 24-hours before visiting.
It is recommended that for legal visits, the representative contact the complex on the morning of the proposed visit to ensure the centre is still able to facilitate the legal visit and ensure their client is still housed at the facility.
