Parklea Correctional Centre is being expanded as part of the NSW Government’s $3.8 billion Prison Bed Capacity Program.
Parklea has been specifically chosen to allow inmates to be close to their families in Sydney and to cut down travel times to the major Sydney courts.
The work at Parklea Correctional Centre is divided into two components:
On Monday 27 November 2017 Parklea Correctional Centre Area 4 was officially opened by member for Riverstone Mr Kevin Conolly MP. The facility includes three 50-bed accommodation buildings, a visits building, support services building, shade structures, playing fields and landscaping.
This infrastructure adds to Corrective Services NSW’s capacity to accommodate inmates in the Sydney metropolitan area. It also supports an external leave program to re-integrate offenders in custody back into the community through work and educational opportunities.
Construction of the 500-bed maximum-security facility commenced 16 January 2017 and is expected to be completed mid-2019. This project also includes a clinic, AVL building, programs and industries building, recreational areas, refurbishment to the gatehouse and a new visits area.
