The Juniperina Juvenile Justice Centre at Lidcombe was transferred to Corrective Services NSW (CSNSW) on 1 July 2016 and gazetted under the name Mary Wade Correctional Centre in September that year. The existing facility has recently been repurposed as a maximum security remand centre within the existing boundary.
Now a 94-bed maximum security prison for women, upgrades include refurbishment of existing buildings, improved perimeter fencing, advanced electronic security, and state-of-the-art audio-visual facilities that allow inmates to attend court remotely from site.
With an emphasis on reducing inmate reoffending, support is given to female offenders in the form of education programs and employment opportunities in order to rehabilitate and break the cycle of crime.
The Mary Wade Correctional Centre was officially opened on 17 November 2017. A public open day was held for local residents on 18 November 2017 and was well attended by descendants of Mary Wade herself.
