The 1,700-bed centre features state-of-the-art security and surveillance, and a focus on rehabilitation to help reduce the rate of reoffending.

The project was delivered by Infrastructure NSW in partnership with the NorthernPathways consortium.

Construction of Clarence Correctional Centre began in early 2018. The facility was officially open on 25 July 2020 by the Minister for Counter Terrorism and Corrections.
