Bathurst Correctional
Centre upgrade

As part of its commitment to Better Prisons, the NSW Government is upgrading the Bathurst Correctional Centre to provide extra accommodation for male inmates.

Thanks to its strategic position three hours’ drive from Sydney, Bathurst is ideally placed to serve as a hub for Corrective Services operations across western NSW. To deliver this, the centre must be upgraded to accommodate maximum-security inmates.

The project will complement the existing medium- and minimum-security sections by providing a new, 220-bed maximum-security facility on the southern part of the site. We will also construct a new gatehouse, reception area, visits area, administration building and parking for staff and visitors.

The new gatehouse will serve both the new maximum- and existing medium-security facility. This will allow the imposing 1888 gatehouse to be decommissioned and preserved as a local landmark.

Our managing contractor, Hansen Yuncken, began initial works on site in August 2018. Construction is expected to finish in mid-2020.

We recognise that construction work has an impact on our neighbours and appreciate your patience and understanding. We look forward to working co-operatively with the Bathurst community to deliver this important project.
