The Northern Pathways consortium including prison operator Serco has been announced by the NSW government as the preferred bidder to deliver and operate the new 1,700-bed correctional centre in Grafton.
More than 1,100 jobs will be created during the construction and about 600 permanent jobs once the new centre is operational in 2020. The project will inject around $560 million into the local economy.

Serco will be required to meet the performance targets that will be rolled out to all NSW correctional centres as part of the Better Prisons program.
Early works will begin in the next few months.
