CSNSW is committed to reducing the rate of re-offending by 5% by 2019.
Offenders are thoroughly assessed before being offered treatment and intervention programs. These are designed to assist offenders in custody and the community to address their offending behaviour and reduce their risk of re-offending.
CSNSW delivers some offence-specific programs particularly in relation to violent and sexual offences. It also offers programs which target addictions, aggression or domestic violence. A suite of 20-session programs have been developed to improve program participation and completion rates.
In addition to these programs and based on the results of vocational and core skills assessments, CSNSW provides inmates with education, training and employment opportunities. It also provides psychology and disability services.
CSNSW also manages specialised units such as the Personality and Behavioural Disorders Service, the Intensive Drug and Alcohol Treatment Program, and programs specifically for female offenders and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders.
