Grafton Intake and Transient Centre

The Grafton Intake and Transient Centre is located near the centre of Grafton City, 650km north of Sydney. 

The correctional centre houses up to 64 inmates who come into custody or need to attend court in the Northern Rivers region.

How to Get There

Public Transport

The nearest railway station is Grafton City Station on the North Coast Line, approximately 5km from the correctional centre. 

  • Visit NSW TrainLink​ for timetables and bookings.
  • A taxi service operates from the station. 

Private Transport

There is street parking adjacent to the gaol.

Pacific Highway and Gwydir Highway

If travelling this route from north or south

  • proceed across the bridge to North Grafton
  • turn right at the second roundabout into Prince Street
  • turn left at the second roundabout into Dobie Street
  • turn right at the next roundabout into Queen Street, which leads to the correctional centre.

Summerland Way

After entering the city limits

  • turn left at St Mary's Primary School which leads to the correctional centre.

  • Saturday morning: 9 – 11am

Protection male and female offenders 

  • Friday morning: 9 – 11am
  • Sunday morning: 9 – 11am
  • Sunday afternoon: 1 – 3pm

  • Tuesdays between 12pm – 2pm
  • Thursdays between 10am – 12pm

Visiting times

  • Saturdays: 8.30 – 11.30am and 12.30 – 3.30pm 
  • Sundays: 8.30 – 11.30am and 12.30 – 3.30pm 

Visits are for a three (3) hour session.

A vending machine is available and visitors are allowed up to $20.00 in coin only.

Legal Visits

  • Legal practitioners may visit everyday between 9am and 3pm. 
  • Notification of intention to visit must be forwarded on letterhead 24 hours in advance.
