How to get there

Public Transport

The only train services are from Sydney to Bathurst or Lithgow. The facility is approximately 34 kilometres west of Lithgow.

Private Transport

The facility is approximately 34 kilometres west of Lithgow on the Great Western Highway. Turn right onto Sunny Corner Road. Further directions to the facility are signposted.  It is highly recommended to use private transport to get to the facility.

Bookings & Visiting Times

The visitor booking line (02 6329 5522) is available from 10am-12pm Tuesday to Thursday.

Bookings can only be made for the following weekend but not for periods in advance of seven days.

Please contact Kirkconnell Correctional Centre (02 6329 5522 or 02 6337 5317) in the event of a cancellation. This will assist in accommodating other visitors.

Visits will not proceed without a prior booking.

Before travelling for a visit, please call the correctional centre to confirm visit and visiting time.

Visiting times are Saturday and Sunday

  • 8.30am - 3pm

At the completion of each session, all visitors and inmates will be cleared from the visits area. The maximum number of visitors per inmate is four adults and an unlimited number of children under the age of 18.

The full name of each adult visitor must be provided when making a booking. 

Conditions

  • One esky up to 50 litres is allowed entry to the centre per visit. It must contain ALL items. Ice packs must be SEALED. No loose ice is permitted. Picnic baskets and plastic carry bags are not permitted.
  • Non Alcoholic drinks in clear sealed plastic containers or cans and a small amount of coins for the vending machine are permitted. No energy drinks are allowed.
  • Visitors must bring their own plastic/disposable cups, plates and cutlery.  Tea, coffee, milk and sweeteners are provided. No sugar is to be brought to the centre.
  • There are two barbeques available. 
  • All food brought into the centre is to be removed from its original packaging and repacked in clear, see through plastic containers. No glass containers.
  • Visitors must wear enclosed footwear and visitors must not remove their shoes during the visit.
  • Socks, Underwear and Thermals are available through the inmate buy-up and are no longer accepted through the mail or visits​.​

Industries

Inmates are employed in CSI food services, engineering, small motors and centre hygiene.

Selected inmates do general ground and building maintenance work on and outside the facility. They also do community project work in the local area.
